The Gasser Get Down 2015 was an unqualified success. Each year we see new faces and more cars ready to run and it’s always exciting to head to the track and see who shows up. Each vehicle is unique and the drivers are all their own kinda crazy!

The weather in Ashcroft was a little iffy on the Friday, but it cleared for an excellent weekend of racing. The Ashcroft round saw new faces to the class. Rod Rimmer, an ex rodeo rider who has traded the insanity of bronco riding to get back on the track and wrestle some Chevy tin down the 1320, Klaus Schierbeck and his freshly built ’56 Ford and Dave Stobbe also showed up with his OG 1956 Corvette to round out the freshman class, sadly Dave had ignition issues and was unable to race.

Roll call for the rest of the ne’er do wells were; Terry Denomme and “Ford Country”, Steve Chase and “Shouty” the ’63 Merc Pick up, “The Ricks” and their gorgeous ’51 Prefect “Compulsion”, Dave “Stock Sucks” McRae and his ’67 Nova, Darcy with “Grape Ape” ’66 Chevelle and Randy “Mr Lightning” Kuryk and his ’55 Chevy.  The crowd packed the fences and the Gassers hit the lanes. Everyone was catching air and fryin’ tires, Randy even pulled his newly installed chute! But in the end it was two of the new kids in the finals. Rod and his Chevy vs Klaus and his Ford, a classic match up. The Ford prevailed and Klaus was the winner. When congratulated, Klaus was asked if he would make it to Mission and he said that the wife had travel plans so it was unlikely. Goodbyes were said to all, fingers crossed that we would see everyone at the Mission round.

Mission Raceway with its newly paved track was a welcome sight on the sunny BC day weekend. Rolling into the pits, the usual suspects were spotted. And again, some new faces; Lonnie Gilbertson and his showcar “Classical Gas” had made the trip up from Portland and was ready to throw down. John Pezzolesi and his sharp ’64 Fairlaine T-Bolt clone, and Pete Panoulias with his deadly ’66 Plymouth. Further into the pits and who is there with a big ol’ grin…it’s Klaus! “Look what you made me do!” he exclaimed. (Apologies to Mrs. Schierbeck.)
