STORY AND PHOTOS BY TERRY DENOMME

When Brian Murray decided he needed a car to show off his fabrication and body and paint skills, he knew it had to be a 1969 Camaro. Murray owns Brian’s Auto in Conception Bay, NL and he had always been a fan of the iconic 1969 Camaro. He’s also a fan of big block Chevys and the Pro Street look so he had a pretty good idea from the outset about the project’s direction.

Though a fan of the body style, he wanted to make some personal touches which included a lower body kit, front spoiler and rear roll pan all fabricated by Murray.  Up front, he designed a grille below the bumper to increase air flow into the engine bay. To smooth things out he ditched the fender mounted signal lights, shaved the door handles and key locks and added aftermarket side view mirrors. The rear bumper was cut and frenched into the body and the rear valance is void of any emblems and the key lock. Murray gives a shout out to his staff at Brian’s Auto for the assist in completing the body work.

After all the bodywork and fabrication were complete, the car was painted with R-M waster base Frost White with Dark Grey Metallic and Light Silver flames with bright orange pinstripes by Murray.

The bones of the car include a 12-point roll cage built with 2x3 tubing by Murray. The rear suspension is  a 4-link setup with QA1 shocks and springs linked to a 9” Ford rear end all painted R-M Satin Black. The 9” is stuffed with 4.88 gears and 31-spline axles with Wilwood rear disc brakes with 13” rotors and 4-piston calipers. The rear wheels are 18” Mickey Thompson HR1s wrapped in M/T Sportsman S/R 33x22x18 rubber. Up front the 18 HR1s are wrapped in 26x8x18 Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R tires. Front brakes are also Wilwood 14” rotors with 6-piston calipers. Front suspension includes Speed Tech upper and lower control arms with QA1 shocks and springs installed by Murray.
